GET YOUR HANDS ON HISTORY

History really is priceless, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy it.

In fact, two storied Hamilton homes have recently been offered for sale.

The Tall House on Hess Street circa 1858 has sold, but one of the ‘six sisters’ of the circa 1879 MacNab Street Terrace is currently on the market and available for $749,000.

As one follower recently said,
“The century homes are in high demand and low supply and we aren't building any more of them.”

So if you are craving heritage home ownership, get your hands one while you can!

172 Hess Street North
“The Tall House”, was first introduced to the market in March this year at $600,000. The priced was reduced to $550,000 and 38 days later she ended up selling for just under $525,000.

This proudly perched painted brick property had my heart racing at first sight imagining all the possibilities. She definitely needed a lot of elbow grease, but all the hard work will be well worth the reward for the buyer who had the foresight to bring her back to her former glory.

FRESH FACTS:
When this home was built by carpenter and builder, Thomas Peat, it was the northernmost residence on Hess Street North. Thankfully, construction was complete just before the recession of 1858, which accommodated all the detailed ornamentation that survives today.

In the 1930s, the owners at the time, had the house painted pink using a rubber-based paint form Portugal. Unfortunately, the paint is impossible to remove without damaging the brick.

FRESH FACTS:
James Balfour, renowned local architect, designed the six unit Terrace which was (and remains) one-of-a-kind in Hamilton. Balfour was inspired by the all-wood Italianate houses and row houses so common in San Francisco and blended that architecture masterfully with High Victorian Gothic.

Today, four of the six ‘sisters’ have been restored to their former glory. #254 is fresh for the picking and bursting with potential with proof of performance in her sensational siblings.

#256-258 are currently operated by the long-time owners as a bed & breakfast/guest house:
