The bar is high, but not as high as you'd think when it comes to Hamilton's record-breaking residential sale prices. Of all recorded sales in Hamilton proper*, the highest (EVER) is $5.165M and the top ten starts at $2.475M. That's eye-opening when you think of many recent listings that are a hair close of this list or in bumping position. You have to stop and think, "Is THIS home that's for sale worthy of all-time status?!"
*Excludes the amalgamated areas of Dundas, Ancaster, Flamborough, Waterdown, Stoney Creek and Glanbrook
Tricia Taffs, realtor at RE/MAX Escarpment Realty Inc, has been selling real estate in Hamilton for 20+ years and she never ceases to be impressed by the range of properties our city has to offer. And she agrees that some of these sales make you do a double take (and maybe even say a quiet "really?")

Have a look at Hamilton's top-10 most expensive homes below. Some are undeniable. Others are questionable. I personally do not get #2. Literally insane IMO.
Happy to report that the majority (6/10) are 75+ years or older. The oldest is 115 years.
Local realtor, Doug Folsetter, with Real Broker Ontario Ltd., says, "Hamilton is full of hidden and unexpected gems...with every style and era represented, the City is an architecture lover's dream."
When it comes to the allure of these 'bar raising' homes Folsetter indicates that buyers of properties like these are looking for uniqueness -- a show piece to call their own. Some want a home that sticks out for all to see, while others covet a private location to enjoy peaceful serenity.

Tricia Taffs loves most how many of these homes offer a true sense of place and personality. She expresses, "Real estate is emotional, and buyers at this level are often drawn to something that feels truly unique."
If you're asking me, it has to be one of a kind and have instant WOW factor. That's subjective, but if chocka-block with original character and craftsmanship + situated on a lush, mature lot, the deal is sealed. #6, #5, #4 and #1 deliver!
Now, without further ado, here's the much anticipated top-10 list!

Although we just finished viewing (and drooling over) Hamilton's most expensive home sales of all-time, Tricia Taffs at RE/MAX reminds us how far your home-buying dollar can still stretch here compared to larger markets like Toronto - especially when you factor in architecture, lot size, and location. Her parting words (of wisdom), "Perhaps Hamilton is still one of the best-kept secrets in Ontario?"
