200 HATT ST, DUNDAS, ON circa 1860s
This board and batten heritage designated cottage was built in the 1860s as store and residence for Thomas VanNoble who arrived in Dundas in 1835 and became the gardener and sexton for St James Church until he died in 1882.
Throughout her early history, the home's storefront toggled from grocery store to butcher and back to grocery store (last used as such in 1934).
At one time the front entrance of the home consisted of a double door flanked by 2 large commercial-type windows (photo immediately below).
The current owners have since restored the facade (updated from April 2017 photo) to a more authentic look (today photo).

REFRESHED
- Original hardware has been stripped, cleaned and re-used
- Historic pine plank hardwood floors have been refinished
- Boards from the original store counter top, over 100 years ago, frame the dining room wall
- Non-original walls have been removed to open up the space
- An cast iron claw-foot tub was relocated from the upstairs to a more spacious home downstairs (and re-finished)
- A porcelain sink from the old kitchen was re-purposed in the same updated main-level bath
- The original potters studio has been transformed into a brand new kitchen space with a raw board wall (revealed after removing plaster)
