STEEPED IN HISTORY

FRESH ON THE MARKET : 28 SOUTH STREET, HAMILTON, ONTARIO

This is one of those ones you often drive by and wonder about. Set far-back from the street, 28 South Street, stands out from the surrounding early twentieth century properties. And it should because its the original farm house to the area. Below are some cool facts I uncovered in the book Heritage Treasures.

1847 Linquenda
Began as a combination house and barn in the ancient Saxon style. Made of dolomite rubble stone using chunks salvaged from the escarpment. The present facade is actually the back of the house. What is now the front door functioned originally as the stable door. The old time front door now opens onto a deck and fenced yard. Linquenda is a Latin word meaning something that must be left behind. A reminder of life's temporal quality...

Now listed at $429,900 on realtor.ca!

It boasts 12'4" ceilings, ornate plaster sculpted medallions, crown mouldings, original stained and leaded glass windows, 17" baseboards, 5 wood burning  fireplaces and wood floors throughout. .  A herringbone brick walkway lines the reflection pond and fountain...a focal point of the nearly 1 acre property, offering retreat and seclusion in the middle of the city.

LAYING THE FIRST BRICK

Laying the first brick to my new blog - FRESH BRICK. I love old homes and home design and I am always on the look out for fresh re-sale listings and fresh decor ideas. And even though I've settled into my dream home my eyes are always wandering for what's new (but old) in the Hamilton (and surrounding) real estate market. Its kind of an obsession but truth be told there's some amazing "SHIT" out there and if I can't own them all I at least need to share my excitement for them with all of you! So stay tuned for some FRESH BRICK as soon as they are ready to pick. I'll try to squeeze out something fresh once a week...
