A LABOUR OF LOVE

200 HATT ST, DUNDAS, ON circa 1860s

This board and batten heritage designated cottage was built in the 1860s as store and residence for Thomas VanNoble who arrived in Dundas in 1835 and became the gardener and sexton for St James Church until he died in 1882.

Throughout her early history, the home's storefront toggled from grocery store to butcher and back to grocery store (last used as such in 1934).

At one time the front entrance of the home consisted of a double door flanked by 2 large commercial-type windows (photo immediately below).

The current owners have since restored the facade (updated from April 2017 photo) to a more authentic look (today photo).

The property was listed last April at an incredulous $327,000, and obviously didn't last very long. The buyers loving restored the home with authenticity and care, fully intending to make it the setting of their happily ever after. But as fate would have it, a job opportunity out west has separated them from their labour of love. Luckily, you now have the opportunity to take the torch on this wonderful piece of Dundas history. Nothing left to do but move in and enjoy!

BANK OF MONTREAL HOUSE

6 Ravenscliffe Avenue Hamilton, ON circa 1911

Ravenscliffe is the concentrated OJ of luxury, historic real estate in Hamilton. It packs a character punch and has been inspiring drive-bys and drool-bys for over 100 years.

And the crown jewel of the street has to be #6. This Spanish mission-style mansion has only had 4 owners in her 106 year history.

The home was originally built in 1911 by the Bank of Montreal for its regional mangers, so they could entertain.
