NO STONE LEFT UN-YEARNED

There are a lot of historic home types and its hard to pick just one. But the most beguiling of them all, in my opinion would be the ‘stone house’.

I have an irrepressible love for these built to last beauties formed by locally sourced limestone, walls thick in depth and history.  And I don’t think I am alone with this one. Throughout my 10+ years of spotlighting Hamilton and area’s architectural gems, nothing holds a candle to a good old stone home – well, except maybe an intact mid-century modern bungalow. But that’s another post!

No stone left un-yearned was recently witnessed with two landmark stone home sales: 146 Park Street West (Dundas, ON) and 6 Websters Falls Road (Greensville, ON). When these listings landed prices and emotions were high, and both were feverishly fetched. Have a look below and see what all the fuss was about!

146 Park Street West, Dundas, ON

‘Scott House’ circa 1858

Listed at $2,995,000 and SOLD for $2,725,000!

This Dundas landmark has always turned heads. A limestone masterpiece combining Classical, Gothic Revival and Ontario vernacular elements – and located right in historical downtown Dundas on a massive 102’ x 222’ lushly landscaped lot. When this one hit the market there were lots of goosenecks as it was the first time to own in nearly 30 years (when it sold for under $300K – gasp, sigh, cry).

6 Websters Falls Road, Dundas, ON

‘Springdale’ circa 1797

Listed at $3,950,000 and SOLD for $3,900,000!

I literally have no words for this over 225-year-old home. Absolutely gob-smacked and speechless. Not to mention jealous my organs weren’t able to crowd-fund this purchase. Serious buyers remorse for not purchasing this in 2018 when it sold for a staggering $1,650,000 in comparison.
