THE ART OF LETTING GO

We have a home we love, but always have our eyes open for the next opportunity. I’ll try for anything and if I fail, I don’t let it bring me down. You never know if you don’t try, and there’s no harm in trying.

Its all about the art of letting go.

We recently tried for two homes on the market. One was 39 Elgin Street in Dundas, and the other was 107 Aberdeen at the corner of Bay Street in Hamilton. 39 Elgin was epically historic (circa 1850s) and just plain magical. 107 Aberdeen was an enviable ‘Grand Durand’ location with a storybook front porch.

The stars didn’t align on either, but no love lost.

We didn’t even have a chance on Elgin, but we tried an offer on Aberdeen. When we put in a bid, it had been sitting on the open market, previously as an exclusive, without any previous bites (so why not?).

Unfortunately, it did not advance because the sellers would not take conditional on sale of our home. We also came in lower than the asking but we were willing to move up on that front. The game-stop was we couldn’t/wouldn’t proceed without the conditional on sale clause. As such we retreated and decided to come back if we sold our place. The plan was set in action with our home on the market and Aberdeen still very much available.

Just before New Year’s Eve there was a flurry of activity on our place, even an offer, but it was too late. Ironically, Aberdeen was available and waiting for months and suddenly there was now an offer and the potential of another (yes, two!). When it rains, it pours. Seriously, what were the odds with that timing?! It just wasn’t in our cards. Aberdeen firmed up and SOLD and we then came off the market.

I firmly believe what is meant to be is meant to be.

In fact, destiny has since connected us with someone who may enable our next (and maybe final) home ownership move. I have never said ‘forever home’ as I try not to tether myself to bricks and mortar, but this one is a dream and checks all the boxes (from looks to logistics). I’m not putting all my eggs in this basket but it is nice to dream of what could be while we enjoy our current address.

About letting go...resolve to let go of people and things that don't bring you joy. Be honest. Be real. Be grateful.  #Reciprocate
